“It’s so hard to find native plants!”
It’s an often-heard lament. The situation for Monarch Award gardeners can be especially frustrating. We want the species, not nativars. We want the weird ones that garden centres don’t carry. And we want them in July and August, when no one else is shopping for plants. What are we plant nerds to do?
The Royal Botanical Garden has heard us! The RBG’s BioBlitz weekend on September 20 and 21 includes a native plant sale. On Saturday September 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Arboretum (16 Old Guelph Road), local native plant suppliers will set up shop. Along with the sale there will be fun activities and opportunities to learn about Canada’s biodiversity hotspot. Admission is free and no registration is required.
Do come out and support the work of the RBG and, of course, get your plants!
